Getting started with riichi mahjong

Video tutorials

The Light Grunty channel on YouTube has an excellent series of videos to learn the rules from scratch!

  • If you’ve never played any kind of 4-player mahjong before - this playlist will begin with teaching the tiles and flow of a game.
  • If you’ve played other forms of 4-player mahjong but are new to riichi, you may skip the first four videos in the above playlist, but the final three will teach you some basic winning conditions (yaku), and especially the riichi call, which sets riichi mahjong apart from many other forms of mahjong.
